MACROMEDIA VOLUME LICENSE PROGRAM UPDATED TO PROVIDE VALUABLE NEW FEATURES FOR K-12 AND HIGHER EDUCATION

Comprehensive offerings provide more affordability, training, and support designed to meet schools' needs.

San Francisco—August 27, 2002—Continuing its strong commitment to education, Macromedia, Inc. (Nasdaq: MACR) today announced new additions to its comprehensive offering of three volume license options designed to meet the needs of K-12 schools and higher education institutions. The additions to its Macromedia Volume License Program (MVLP) are designed to enable all education organizations to readily afford leading web development tools for both academic and administrative computing needs. New options include Macromedia server products, online training solutions, and deeper discount levels for schools purchasing higher volumes. Detailed information about the program is available at www.macromedia.com/education/.

"The new features and benefits of our Academic Transactional License Option and Premier Education Programs, along with the recently announced K-12 Site License Solution, give education customers the freedom to select the volume solutions that best meets their individual needs," said Pat Brogan, vice president of education, Macromedia.

Macromedia education licensing options have enabled K-12 schools and higher education institutions worldwide to standardize on Macromedia products. The Academic Transactional License Option, available throughout North America, is a flexible pay-as-you-go, no-contract-required volume licensing option that offers customers significant savings over boxed-product prices. Educational institutions receive significant savings with this points-based program by mixing and matching a variety of offerings including software, upgrades, subscription, technical support, and training in order to achieve significant discount levels.

The Premier Education Program (PEP), available in the U.S, offers the most affordable licensing option for purchasing and is designed for academic institutions looking to build Macromedia products into their curriculum or to offer broad access to these leading web authoring and server technologies across schools and campuses. Within this program, each product is assigned a point value. The total number of points within the initial order sets the customer's PEP discount rate for two years from the initial order purchase date.

"We're excited to be a partner in this licensing strategy," said Sue Workman, director of teaching and learning information technology, Indiana University. "The agreement allows us to deploy leading-edge web and multimedia authoring applications throughout the academic and administrative sectors of the university. Macromedia's licensing programs have enabled the university to reach an agreement that represents a huge savings to the university—especially valuable in this climate of budget constraint."

Designed specifically for K-12 schools, the new K-12 Site License Solution gives schools access to teaching curriculum and teacher training with the freedom to use Macromedia Studio MX throughout the school for one set price based on the size of the school. For as little as $2,000, the new licensing solution allows schools to easily and affordably provide Macromedia Studio MX to educators to help students learn to use market-leading web development tools in both technology and all curricular programs.
